5th Earth Competition

JDA’s Britt Hill won third prize in the 5th Earth Architecture Competition, securing a trip to Senegal to run a 12-week construction workshop to build their project. Tasked to design a rural arts centre with a focus on vocational training as part of an artisanal village, their entry responded with the ethos of ‘learning by doing’, designed in a way to involve the students in the construction of the centre itself, progressing sequentially from rudimentary construction concepts to more complex artisanal techniques. The material outcome is intended to be much like a collage, variable with each iteration.
